We are in the 5th week of school and September is rolling out!
Last week, we finished MAP testing so we are back on schedule for this week. ELA Student will read develop comprehension skills which focus on Facts and Details from a selection Students will Predict and Set Purpose (Author's Purpose for Writing) Students will understand consonant digraphs in phonics Writing will focus on one paragraph with a Main idea and descriptive details. Math Students will understand numbers to 1000 using base ten. They will focus on writing numbers in different ways as well as showing how many hundreds are represented in a number. Social Studies Students will continue to learn about their roles and responsibilities as good citizens. They will understand the need for rules at school, at home, and in the community. Science Students will explore the properties of matter using PLTW kits. This week they will learn and explore how light affects how we see objects. Scholastic Book orders will be placed on September 30th!!! If you need help placing an online order please check this website or send me an email. Curriculum Night is September 29th. ELA Students will explore Expository Text and use oncept charts to oragnize and display information Students will read for important details and information Students will use comprehension strategies to identify the main idea and supporting details Phonics/Word Work will include inflected endings: -ed and -ing Math Skill: 2.NBT.A.2 Count within 1000; skip count by 5s, 10s, 100s. Social Studies The students will continue their government unit this week. Last week, they were interested to learn about how laws keep them safe and allow people to be treated fairly. They used time in Technology class to research the mayor of their city/town. Science This week the students will continue exploring Properties of Matter using problem-based activities to find solutions as to how to keep ice (ice-pop) from melting. Thank you for all of your help whether it was cutting out ribbons, assembling ribbons to pins, or sending in donations. We could not have done it without you! Week of 9/12/2016 Our class completed each of the Daily 5 rotations this week! Our rotations include Read to Self, Partner Reading, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Teacher Time. We will begin assessments next week (9/19, 9/20) so expect less homework on those days. A note about Scholastic Book Orders... A Scholastic Flyer was sent home during the first full week of school. Social Studies This week our students will begin learning about the three branches of government. They will use some of their time in the computer lab to research information. Volunteers Needed: September 12th-14th to glue ribbons for Alex's Lemonade event.
All materials will be provided. We just need helping hands to join us at school to assemble/hot glue the ribbons and pins. Please email me if you are available to help! Thank you in advance! Please take a look inside of the Friday Folder that your child brought home. Fill out and return the Student Information Sheet that is in the folder. A few of you have already done so, you do not have to send in another. Class Dojo is up and running! If you have not signed up/logged in please join us. It is a great way to monitor your child's progress throughout the day and week. Here is a look at our upcoming week: ELA Long Vowels VCe- Long Vowel Consonant sounds are often spelled Vowel + Consonant + e Students will read informational text to determine meaning. Students will identify the main topic of a read text. Students will demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English by using capitalization , punctuation, proper spelling when writing. Math Students will read and write numbers to 1000 using base ten numerals, number names , and expanded form. Social Studies Students will explore different communities and what it means to be a good citizen. |
