Phonics: Review previously introduced spelling patterns r-controlled, oo, u, double consonants Comprehension: expository text, reading for information Social Studies Connection: Mapping skills Writing: The Writing Process: The students will use a graphic organizer to oraganize their thoughts. They will begin a first draft, edit, and final copy. Grammar: Antonyms (opposites), Correct capitilization and punctuation, types of sentences. Spelling Quiz on Friday (Review List) This week in Math: (continued) In this chapter, the students will: Use doubles facts as a strategy for finding sums for near doubles facts. Recall sums for basic facts using properties and strategies. Recall sums for addition facts using the make a ten strategy. Find sums of three addends by applying the Commutative and Associative Properties of Addition. Use the inverse relationship of addition and subtraction to recall basic facts Write equations to represent and solve a variety of addition and subtraction situations. The students will begin taking 3 minute math drills during class on Fridays. They will be required to quickly recall math facts and write them down without counting on their fingers. Please use the Xtra Math website to help your child practice these math facts and concepts. Yourchild should have brough thome log in information in their Friday folder. Math Quiz on Friday. ( 3 minute addition drill/100 problems) This week is Science/ STEM: This week the students will conitnue learn about animal groups. They have started a group research activity in class on a particular mammal. They will continue to work on and complete various STEM challenges. Reminders: Your child should be writing down their homework each day (from the board) in their Agenda. They will have Speller's Choice, Reading Log, and usually and Math practice sheet. On some nights they may have an ELA practice sheet. Homework should be turned in Tuesday-Friday mornings unless there is a special circumstance. The Reading Log should be completed throughout the week and turned in on Friday. Homework is worth 10 points for the week in ELA and 10 points in Math.
